Lorax Environmental has extesive expertise in utilising geochemical equilibrium models (e.g., MINTEQ, PHREEQC, HYDRAQL, WATEQ4F) to provide information with respect to the behaviour, speciation, bioavailability in toxicity of metals in various aquatic settings. Such geochemical models are used as predictive tools to assess the behaviour of mine-related contaminants, or conversely as supporting information for field data.
Geochemical modelling has been applied by Lorax personnel to address various mining-related environmental issues, including:
- Composition of seepages emanating from waste dumps and tailings impoundments;
- Predictive modelling for pit lake water quality; and
- Metal speciation assessments in studies of metal bioavailability and toxicity.
